A scholarly publication of the Alliance for Texas History
The Alliance for Texas History is pleased to announce the creation of a new publication, the Journal of Texas History. The JTxH will showcase the history of Texas and the Greater Southwest and will include the many histories of its people and culture.
Serving as co-editors are Rebecca Sharpless, professor of history at Texas Christian University, and Benjamin H. Johnson, professor of history at Loyola University Chicago. Felipe Hinojosa, professor of history at Baylor University, will serve as the review editor, and Sandra I. Enríquez from the University of Missouri-Kansas City will serve as public history editor. An additional group of scholars with a wide range of expertise have currently been appointed to serve as members of the Editorial Board.
With this announcement, the Alliance begins a process that will soon showcase the best work on Texas history in all aspects. Our outstanding editorial board will ensure that the Journal of Texas History fosters inclusivity and excellence in ideas and methodology.
If you are interested in submitting an article for the new journal please review the Call for Manuscripts and send an email query to submissions@jtxh.org.

Texas’s population has doubled over the past forty years, yet the number of scholarly journals devoted to the state’s history has remained roughly the same. In the meantime, Texas has grown more diverse, and whole new fields and methodologies have emerged in the historical profession. We believe, then, that there is room—and a real need—for another journal to tell the many stories of Texas and Texans. We are proud to join with our colleagues at other historical organizations in telling those stories.

Although we are too early in this process to give a definitive answer, we are aware of how fitting it would be to debut the journal in time for our first annual conference in May 2025.
